businesses are rising up and becoming a force for nature
Businesses and individuals, not governments, are leading the fight for environmental action
For the first time in Earth’s history, human activity upon our planet has propelled us into a new geologic era, the Anthropocene, where today’s modern societies are the leading cause of impact and change upon our planet.

A Global Movement
45% of Millennials and 39% of Generation X are identifying themselves as environmentalists. Employees’ personal views on ecological sustainability and restoration are no longer being left home as they go to work. Today’s young people feel so strongly about their employers’ commitments to making a positive impact on the environment that it is a major consideration on whether to take or stay at jobs. Employer environmental activism ranked 5th, as one of the most desirable job benefits that employees look for in a company.
Two corporate imperatives have emerged: the need to integrate impactful environmental practices into each job opportunity; and having employers use their influence to fight for environmental change mitigation and restore our natural environment, for the long-term.
Reinventing Business. Defining Success.
When discussing our current environmental challenges, it’s easy to become numb to the magnitude of the problem. Consequently, it’s important to lead with a commitment to asking the question, “What piece can I do?”, and acting on the answer. No one person or business can restore our world’s environment, but we can restore bits and pieces of the environment that are within our reach.
These new imperatives are giving leaders the ability to create a new vision of success and redefine the way business is done, beyond profit margins. There will be winners and losers. Financial investors are finding companies that drive environmental responsibility appealing because they are positioned to produce maximum stakeholder value and the best financial returns over the next decade. Businesses can no longer sit on the sidelines or they will be at a disadvantage over those who are now devising strategies to reduce environmental impact. These progressive companies are reaping competitive advantages and opportunities to increase profits while creating a strong brand and social credibility.
In order to be successful, forward thinking leaders are rising to the challenge to better understand their environmental impact and the actions that can drive the necessary critical changes.
