Louise Livingstone, PhD, is the founder of the Heart Sense Research Institute in the United Kingdom. The institute aims to bring heart-centered thinking into the conversation at the socio-political level, with a wider view of transforming thinking around human relationships with nature.

Dr. Livingstone’s work is focused on transformation and holistic thinking in relation to wider global issues including sustainability, re-visioning education, and socio-ecological responsibility. Her current research explores the idea that heart knowing is a vitally important human capacity, which has, over the course of many hundreds of years, been divorced from, and rendered subservient to, knowledge about the world as generated through the brain. Suggesting that this move not only carries the potential to cause conflict, Dr. Livingstone’s research considers how contemporary society may be prevented from engaging creatively with conflict because of an unquestioned acceptance of the superiority of knowledge generated through the brain. Dr. Livingstone’s research has wide applicability in terms of social justice, sustainability, and the development of eco-consciousness.

Dr. Livingstone is a widely published author. In many of her articles, she brings together the connections between Goethean enquiry and knowledge that arises through the heart in relation to 'conversing' with nature.

Dr. Livingstone holds an MSc in Holistic Science and has recently completed a PhD in how heart-centered knowing could help individuals engage more effectively with conflict situations.
