Jon Gleman was born just outside of Charleston, West Virginia. His family moved when he was a year old, making a couple stops before settling in Miami, Florida, when he was six years old. These stops, and growing up in Miami in the 50s and 60s, cemented his love of nature.
Jon has had several careers along his journey. He graduated with a BS in biology from the University of Miami and worked as an ecologist for many years in the 70s and 80s. During this time, he created and ran a small, mail-order bookshop on natural sciences, The Naturalist Bookshop. In the mid-80s, his career turned sharply when he took a job with Boeing, where he worked for 26 years at the Kennedy Space Center, first as an electrical controls engineer, and, later, as a manager. After Boeing, he took a management position at a prestigious architecture and engineering firm in Orlando. During this time, he and his sons started a woodworking shop, Gleman and Sons Custom Woodworks, which provides custom items for individuals and companies. Many of the items they craft are made from reclaimed lumber.
Jon is retired now and is dedicating his journey to generating awareness on just how fortunate we are to be part of life here on our planet, Mother Earth. To this end, Jon has written a book, Life’s Journey 2022. Jon’s hope is that you will find his stories entertaining and enlightening, inspiring you to do all that you can to connect with our earth-born companions and to restore, preserve, and protect our beautiful home, Mother Earth.
